2007-2008 School Season
Tickets $6 per child (Teachers are free!)
Dear Elementary Teacher,
Announcing Thistle Theatre’s 2007-8 season of
Myths, Magic and Merriment.
Jack and the Beanstalk - England Merry Chris Mouse- USA
The Pitfalls of Mr. Yama - Japan The Three Billy Goats Gruff – Norway
Introduce your class to the magic of the theatre and the art of puppetry at one of our three locations: Magnuson Park Theatre and Sunset Hill Community Club serving Seattle and the Bellevue Youth Theatre serving the Eastside.
Thistle Theatre offers 15 years of expertise in a variation of the ancient Japanese style of puppetry called Bunraku. The puppeteers, dressed all in black, manipulate the puppets from behind. With two or three puppeteers operating one puppet they skillfully bring realistic movement to the handcrafted puppets. This exciting season also features rod, body, shadow and blacklight puppets. Creative story telling and delightful music scores are hallmarks of our productions designed and built by artists in the Thistle Theatre studio.

England
Based on an old English version of the story, simple Jack Spriggins trades his family’s cow for five colored beans. His long suffering mother tosses the beans out the window where they magically grow as tall as the sky. An amazing adventure ensues when Jack climbs to the top of the beanstalk and becomes a slave to the Cyclops wife of the Fee-fi-fo-fum Giant. Struggling to feed her husband’s enormous appetite the excitement continues as the wife also tries to protect Jack from the giant’s wrath. A golden hen, a magic singing harp and even a green fairy and a fool add to the musical merriment.

Back by popular demand is our hilarious musical version of the classic Norwegian story in which the Three Billy Goats Gruff are in search of fresh green grass. Two of them convince their new friend the Water Troll to build them a bridge. Unfortunately, when you build a bridge you get a bridge troll. Sure enough a humorously grumpy Bridge Troll moves in and attempts to stop each of the Billy Goats from reaching the other side.
